Do you ever find yourself, thinking I've done my exercise for the day I am going to sit and chill out? Do you ever find yourself taking the lift rather than the stairs because your legs are a bit achy from a previous workout? A common mistake some make when they exercise, is to reward themselves with more rest than normal - such as sitting down to watch telly or read a fantastic blog :). They might be putting off other jobs or tasks they would normally do like cleaning, hanging washing, popping to the shops, and general pottering about.
The results can be that despite an increase in "exercise" you don't actually burn off as many extra calories in the day because you have moved less the rest of the day compared to normal.
If you have found that you have started exercising, particularly with the intention of loosing weight, but it is not necessarily having the desired effect, you should reflect on the activities you have done (or not done) during the rest of the day.
It is important to keep up the same level of movement you would normally if you didn't exercise that day. Of course you need rest and recovery but that rest should not be total rest (unless advised by a medical professional of course).
In addition, increasing the amount you move during the day would be beneficial, but that is another blog post!
